A teenage boy was found dead only a few days after being falsely accused of stealing the ashes of a dead infant during a break-in, a coroner's inquiry has heard.

Heartbreaking Discovery

Kai Lloyd's parents found his body in his bedroom at his Connah's Quay home on November 19th, 2021.

False Accusations Start

The inquest heard how his parent got a message on 8 November 2021 via online platforms, from a woman asking if Kai was her offspring. The communication stated: "Tell him appreciation for burgling my flat."

In a testimony presented to the proceedings, the mother said the individual had been in the media, asserting her infant's remains had been stolen in a break-in - a claim which was untrue.

Law Enforcement Investigation

An investigation report from police later determined the alleged burglary complainant had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that the items was not stolen in the first place".

Media reports about the supposed stolen ashes generated online comments, and although Kai was not named in the messages, his parent said individuals "understood it was him".

The "online posts were really upsetting", she stated.

Mental Health Impact

She added that Kai had been diagnosed with moderate ADHD, and as part of that disorder, other peoples' opinions really mattered to him.

"This must have hurt him deeply," she commented, "especially when this was not true".

Kai was detained at home, but no evidence was discovered. He was transported to a law enforcement facility and later freed under investigation.

Authorities said they would be in contact, the hearing heard, but had failed to contacted the relatives by the moment of his passing.

Withdrawal and Anxiety

His parent said her son "became isolated" after the detention and "would keep asking me whether I had heard anything from the police", because his condition meant sometimes "certain periods could feel like much longer".

When she spoke to him about the alleged burglary, she said her child told her he had entered the residence because the resident who lived there had said he could use the toilet anytime he wanted, but denied taking anything.

Digital Harassment

In a joint statement between her and her husband, the mother said her child was being harassed digitally after the allegations.

The proceedings heard that a young adult encouraged the teenager to end his life.

She had no concerns on the night before he died, describing how she had listened to him "chuckling and joking".

She described him as a "compassionate, loving" boy, and said her "relatives is totally shattered".

He had been "obviously concealing his worries", she said, adding that he could not bear to have anybody "have negative thoughts of him".

Educational Response

The inquest heard from educational personnel at Connah's Quay High School.

On November 8th, she "heard some students discussing that the student had been arrested and that was the first I heard".

"He informed me... he'd was innocent," she continued.

After the conversation, the educator said she called Kai's family landline and provided a voicemail saying she had communicated to the student about the accusations.

The court heard his parents said they did not got that message.

Official Conclusion

Senior coroner informed the hearing he would await documents regarding what improvements had been made to dealing with individuals with ADHD, before deciding whether he should make a avoidance of subsequent deaths report.

Providing a descriptive finding, he said: "Approximately November 8th, 2021, unsupported allegations were made against the teenager, a young child.

"Probably falsehoods were subsequently embellished and exaggerated through the platform of social media.

"On 11 November, he was questioned by the authorities and following his interview he was released whilst inquiries proceeded."

The official concluded: "There is no evidence that the acts or failures of any agency caused or added to his death and although it was the outcome of a self-inflicted act it is not possible to determine his purpose."
