Trump Invites Relatives of Shot Military Soldiers to the Presidential Residence
Former President Donald Trump announced on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a National Guard member killed last week to come to the White House.
He added that he conversed with her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Information on the Heartbreaking Shooting
US army specialist Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a attack on Wednesday in DC.
Her comrade, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in serious condition.
Memorials across West Virginia have been held in their honor.
Presidential Call
The president said he’s proposed a visit to the White House for the families of both members of the state Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a hard experience, come to the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” Trump told reporters. “And in the same way with Andrew, recover or not.”
Community Reaction
Community members assembled over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to honor Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the military unit as part of the president’s federal initiative to aid public safety in the capital.
Paying Tribute to the Soldier
“Sarah was the type of pupil that educators desired. She behaved with quiet strength, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged people around her,” Hankins, the head of Beckstrom’s previous school, told the media. “She was sweet, caring and always willing to help others.”
Funeral plans for Sarah are in the process of planning.
Legal Measures and Policy Changes
Law enforcement have accused a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of homicide and two counts of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The incident caused the Trump administration to pause asylum applications and temporarily stop granting visas to owners of travel documents.
Condition of Wolfe
Wolfe, a native of the city, started his military career in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, per the AP.
He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia governor the governor said on a news program.
Attorney general Bondi stated on the program that she planned to speak to Wolfe’s family.
Legacy of Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County High in June 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a law enforcement officer with excellence, as stated by the military.
“She had a lot of compassion and she certainly had fortitude,” he addressed the crowd at the service. “Though her life was cut short, she has made an impact that’s going to last forever.”
