The Three Lions to Launch Euro 2028 Quest at the Etihad Stadium
England’s men’s team will commence their Euro 2028 campaign at the the home of Manchester City, provided that they attain the expected passage for a competition staged throughout most of the United Kingdom and the Irish Republic.
Manchester City’s home ground has not staged an England men’s match since eight years ago, when Turkey were defeated 2-1 in a exhibition match, but is highly likely to stage the national team for their first match on a Saturday in June 2028.
The team are scheduled to play their last two group stage games at Wembley Stadium, but, in the event of winning Group B, their knockout stage opener would occur at the Newcastle stadium. Placing second would mean beginning the elimination stage at Everton’s ground.
Tournament Launch and Demonstration
The championship was unveiled at an ceremony in a London landmark on the previous evening. High-ranking officials from the tournament organizers and the organizing bodies were confronted as they arrived the venue by approximately 50 pro-Palestine demonstrators, who urged Israel’s national side to be kicked out from the sport because of the conflict in Gaza.
Placards were raised with slogans reading “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while protesters called out: “Kick Israel out.”
Event Fixture List
The inaugural fixture of the tournament will be staged at the Principality Stadium in the Welsh capital, on a Friday in June 2028, a match that will involve the Dragons if they qualify.
Wembley will host the two semi-final matches and the championship match, which will be staged on a Sunday in July 2028 with a commencement at 5pm.
It is anticipated that an afternoon start, which will also be adopted for Champions League finals from the following campaign, will appeal to families and help connect with a wider spectrum of fans.
Participating Countries
The Ireland are scheduled to play their opening match at the Dublin stadium and the Tartan Army would play similarly at the national stadium of Scotland.
All four host countries’ teams will take part in the preliminary stage; two reserved places will be set aside for any that do not reach the finals through that route.
Stadiums and Elimination Phase
Aston Villa’s stadium and The North London arena complete the nine tournament locations. Each one will hold at least one elimination game, with the quarterfinal matches played at every host’s main arena.
The qualification draw will be conducted in the Northern Irish capital, which was removed as a host city last year when it was revealed Casement Park could not be redeveloped in time, on December 6, 2026.
Tournament Vision
“The event will be a championship for the supporters and a festival of everything we value about the game – its emotion and capacity to bring people together.”
Over 3 million passes, a record for a men’s European Championship, are expected to be made available to attendees.
