The Renowned Musician Calls On Backing to Send Palestinian Solidarity Lullaby to UK Festive Top Spot.
A charity drive is aiming to launch a traditional song from Palestine to the top of the UK charts. The campaign seeks to send support to people in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian culture and creativity.
An Opportunity for Support and an "Chart Upset"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a moment to stand with Palestinians this festive season. He noted the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“That would be amazing if that occurred, yes,” he said. “I’m not gonna be completely disappointed if it doesn’t, holiday tracks are a category of their own.”
Powerful Theme of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the version of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's resilient spirit.
“It has a very special place for countless listeners,” Barghouti said. “It’s basically saying that I would rather die in dignity than exist without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we desire to exist a respectful existence that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Production History and Contributing Musicians
The track was produced in the wake of a large-scale benefit event held in late summer. Initially planned to be captured during the live event, the piece was omitted from the lengthy event due to time constraints.
The diverse array of artists appearing on Lullaby encompasses a selection of acclaimed names from the scene. All participated in the earlier concert, which managed to collect a substantial amount for relief efforts.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was crafted by a team of music creators. The track blends a fusion of the traditional Arabic lyrics with new English lyrics.
The organizers behind the project have emphasized that their objective is to raise as much as possible for a dedicated fund. These donations will be channeled to projects in Palestine through an non-profit partner.
“We don’t have a fixed goal,” a spokesperson commented. “We’ll go for whatever we can get. Obviously, the more the merrier. All proceeds are directed out to the people of Gaza.”
The situation in the region was described as its widespread damage, with a vast majority of buildings said to be levelled or seriously harmed.
“Given that reality, a couple of million is unlikely to make an enormous impact. But I think what does make a difference is first of all making this cause better known and proving there’s another side to the story.”
The track is scheduled for release at the end of the week. Additionally, a complete film of the charity concert will be made available for streaming on a popular streaming site from mid-December.
