The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for United
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the WSL team.
Departure from Bayern was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Old Trafford
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United seem to be building positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional business:
- The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
