Outrage Explodes as Former President Trump's Post on Director Rob Reiner Draws Fierce Rebuke

Individuals from across the political divide and the Hollywood industry are uniting to condemn former President Donald Trump for his comments following the shocking deaths of renowned filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.

A Provocative Online Post

Following the discovery of the couple deceased at their Brentwood residence, Trump took to his platform to describe the late director as "anguished and suffering". The message, he claimed Reiner's demise was "because of the hostility he provoked others through his massive, relentless, and untreatable condition with a mind-crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME".

The post then pivoted to praising his own achievements, juxtaposing Reiner's supposed "intense obsession" and "obvious paranoia" with what Trump called the "unprecedented era of America".

Police Update and Arrest

Authorities have since confirmed the detention of the Reiners' 32-year-old son, Nick, on charges related to homicide in relation to the case. It is reported his bail was established at a significant amount.

A Torrent of Condemnation from Celebrities and Politicians

The response to Trump's post was immediate and scathing.

“What a appalling and despicable comment,” said public figure Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Television host Whoopi Goldberg, who called Reiner a friend, similarly criticized the remarks. Goldberg referenced prior comments from Trump regarding political violence, asking, "Do you have no shame? Is it possible to get any worse?"

California's Democratic governor, Gavin Newsom, simply wrote, "He is a sick man."

Mirroring this view, US House member Maxwell Alejandro Frost declared, "He is a despicable piece of garbage."

Senator Chris Murphy added, "He's just crossed a line. Now implying the Reiners brought on their own murder because they didn’t support him. Deeply disturbing."

Rebuke from Within Political Ranks

A number of Republican lawmakers also voiced disapproval.

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene stated that the situation was "a family tragedy, not about politics or rivals". Greene also alluded to struggles with addiction and mental health within families.

Fellow Republican congressman, Thomas Massie, labeled Trump's discourse "inappropriate and disrespectful" given the circumstances. He openly dared others in his political party to justify the statements.

Reiner's Legacy and Stance on Trump

Rob Reiner was long a vocal detractor of Donald Trump. In a previous interview, he stated Trump was "mentally unfit" for the office. He had also cautioned about the dangers of authoritarian rule should Trump return to power.

"There is authoritarianism making its move around the world," Reiner said. "Should the United States fall, there’s a danger that democratic systems collapse around the world."

Regardless of his strong criticisms, Reiner had previously expressed "absolute horror" and condemned political violence without reservation after the killing of another individual.

An Ironic Link: The Art of the Deal

Adding a element of historical connection, Michele Reiner, formerly Michele Singer, was the photographer who shot the cover image for Donald Trump's 1987 book, The Art of the Deal.

Rob Reiner had previously recounted the anecdote of the photo shoot, mentioning Trump's request for "special hairspray" as being photographed on a high-rise overlooking Central Park.
